In particular, residents abroad should fill out the E1 form with details regarding:

  • pension income
  • income from rent earned on real property
  • income from business activities (profit/loss)
  • income from interest earned on deposits
  • real property and vehicle details
  • loans
  • use of capital earned abroad
  • inherited capital and other.
What is? When should it be submitted? Stakeholders  Procedure

What is?

The E1 tax income form is the main income declaration form for Greek residents and residents abroad and includes both informational and quantitative data.

This form, along with E2 form (income from leasing real property), refers to taxpayers who own real property and earn income on it.

In case the taxpayer also has business activity in Greece, then other forms should also be completed, such as E3 (Business Activity Financial Data Statement), etc.

When should it be submitted?

The E1 form is submitted within the time period from February to June and exhausts taxpayer obligations with regard to income taxation.

Stakeholders

When it comes to tax residents abroad, submitting an E1 form is mandatory when real income is earned in Greece. Real income is taxed according to the income category and the respective tax rates, as set out in the Greek Income Tax Code.

For example, if a tax resident abroad earns rental income in Greece, then such income should be taxed using the tax rate set out for rental taxation.

On the other hand, when a tax resident abroad does not earn real income in Greece, there is no obligation to submit an E1 form.

For example, if a tax resident abroad owns or buys a house to live in (owner-occupancy) and/or a car, but has earned no real income (e.g. from renting the property), then there is no obligation to submit an E1 form.

Procedure

Greek legislation is complicated and constantly subjected to amendments, which renders the monitoring of the Greek tax system practically impossible, even for well-informed taxpayers. Thus, it is advised that professional tax experts submit the E1 form.

The taxpayer/tax expert electronically fills out the form, via the Greek information system Taxisnet, using the taxpayer's personal details (username/password). The form is submitted annually, between February and June.
